Welcome To 2Litre Bottle!

The aim behind www.2litrebottle.tk is to encourage all of us to do something good for others, especially those less fortunate than you, the site also shares some of my experiences and things I truly enjoy. Whether it may be about travel, food or wine. Over the last few years I have been fortunate to work, travel and experience a variety of places throughout Southern Africa, which I am truly grateful for. I’ve met great people and done things I never dreamt I would do. And I’m thankful for all those opportunities that came my way and those to come. So do enjoy and please feel free to leave a comment.

Destination

Cape Point, Western Cape, South Africa

Situated +/- 50kms from the Mother City Cape Town. The trip there takes you through beautiful coastal towns like Fish Hoek and Simons Town, where you can stop off and visit Boulders Beach that has a colony of African Penguins and if you in luck, you may be able to view the Southern Wright whales nursing in the waters of False Bay (Usually around October).

All the way to Cape Point you are surrounded by picture perfect views. On entering The Cape of Good Hope nature reserve you will notice the indigenous vegetation which is home to many floras including different species of the Protea flower. Words cannot explain the panoramic views once you at Cape Point, best admired from the old lighthouse. You have an option of a hike up to the lighthouse or taking ride up in the funicular. I recommend the funicular on your way up, so you don’t tire yourself out before you get there and then take a stroll back down which will allow you to take it all in.

It is very windy over there so please do take a windbreaker with. There is one disadvantage though. Cape Point is a very popular place, so it can get over crowded with visitors, especially over weekends but it does not spoil the experience. They also have a great restaurant over there, but another recommendation I can make is to take a packed lunch with you because the restaurant can get really busy. Just before leaving the park make your way down to Cape Of Good Hope, which is the most south western point of the continent. It’s a great place to grab some more pic’s and to really get gulp of some fresh ocean air. So if you in the Western Cape of South Africa make sure you add Cape Point to your itinerary. Check Out The Photo Gallery For More Pics

To Add:

Some of the wildlife you will encounter during your visit includes many bird species, buck species as well as baboons. I do plead with everyone not to feed the baboons. You welcome to admire and take photos. But by feeding the baboons they become dependant on it and they see it as an easy meal, in turn they do become a nuisance. Please keep in mind that the baboons are dangerous and no matter how cute they look, they are not to be mistaken as domestic animals.

A Must Try!

Its summer in Southern Africa at present, and usually during the warm season we all tend to prefer lighter meals. So for a nice light lunch or brunch I can always recommend a good open sandwich. This is very quick & simple to prepare. The choice of toppings is entirely up to you, for me the best combination would definitely be bacon, avo & feta, but feel free to experiment with various meats, toppings or whatever pleases your taste buds. The combination of bacon, avo & feta goes just as well on a closed toasted sandwich. Enjoy!

Ingredients

Fresh French Loaf

Streaky Bacon

Ripe Avocado

Good Quality Feta Cheese

Crisp Lettuce

Cherry Tomatoes

English Cucumber

Chives (optional)

Slice up your French loaf. Pan fry your bacon until lightly crispy.

Plate a couple of slices of the French loaf. Place the bacon on top of the bread.

Peel and slice your avo, add that on top of your bacon.

Cube your feta and then crumble it over the avo & bacon.

Serve with a side of a basic fresh green salad & garnish with a couple of sprigs of chives.

ENJOY!

Quench

Fruity

A Sauvignon Blanc is the perfect a complement to our open sandwich.

The Lanzerac Sauvignon Blanc 2008 is a crisp and fresh wine, with great tropical fruit aromas.

You should pick up guava & pineapple flavours on the tongue. It’s perfect for a summers day and goes down great by itself or pairs well with a light meal.

Superb!

Why 2Litre Bottle?

I got the idea from my mother that by filling a 2litre soft drink bottle with 50cent (RSA) coins you will end up with +/- R3000 (US $300) in total. And once the bottle is filled my mother would give that money to the church or to others less fortunate.

So it got me thinking, how many times does one get tired of your wallet piling up with coins that you hardly use and that causes unnecessary bulkiness. The change either ends up lying around at home or in your car. So the solution to that little problem is to try and always ask for your change in mostly 50cent (RSA) coins when making a purchase at a store, butchery, etc.

The reason for the 50cent (RSA) coin is because it’s the only coin that can go with ease into the bottle but it cannot come out unless you cut the bottle open, kind of like those piggy banks you had as a kid. When you decide to get rid of all the excess wait in your wallet, pop all those coins into your 2litre soft drink bottle instead of letting it end up in your cars ashtray. It does take some time to fill, but it will get there.

Think about it this way if the majority of those fortunate filled there bottles with coins that would just be lying around, even just half the value of your bottle could help out a friend or family member in need, your local church or possibly change the life of someone that’s in need that you don’t even know. So I would like to encourage you to do something effortless, by filling your own 2litre bottle and doing something good with it.

Imagine if we all could do it what a difference we all can make.
